Microsoft has released the first Windows 11 preview build. Windows Insiders will be able to download the Windows 11 preview build 22000.51 right away. It includes access to the new Start Menu, multitasking capabilities, and an overhauled Microsoft Store. The official preview consists of an updated File Explorer, which replaces the ribbon by a command bar. This is in contrast to the previous Windows 11 leaked.
The initial preview of Windows 11 will contain most of the visual changes Microsoft announced last week. This preview includes the new Start menu and its launcher-like interface. It also features rounded corners all over the OS, improvements to the notification center, and volume flyouts. Windows 11's lock screen will feature a parallax motion effect for those with an accelerometer.
The preview includes Windows 11's new themes as well as improvements to dark/light mode settings. Microsoft has paired all of the new themes, Captured Motion Sunrise, Sunrise, and Flow, with new Windows 11 sounds that you can use to enhance your experience with Windows 11.
Two major Windows 11 features, however, are missing: Microsoft Teams integration as well as Android apps for Windows. They are currently being developed and tested by Microsoft. However, they will appear in later preview builds.
Microsoft's Snap Groups, Snap Layouts, and Snap Layouts are included in the Windows 11 preview. This will improve multitasking across all screen sizes. These Snap features expand on many multitasking features found in Windows over the years and make them more accessible and valuable, especially in multiple monitor situations.
Microsoft is also revamping Windows 11's Settings section. This preview build contains changes that make it easier and quicker to find the setting you are looking for. The location now has a left-hand navigation panel that persists through the whole of Settings, making it easier to move between sections. Microsoft created new "heroes," which allow users to quickly access the information and settings relevant to each area.
